Classified Senate
Minutes of January 8, 2003
1.
Minutes: Distributed. Any changes to be made at end of
Secretary’s report to avoid time consumption.
2.
General Comments by public and/or college community: None
3.
Presentation by Doug Forsyth: Classified employee involvement in
planning the Main Stage/Theater Arts full renovation. Involvement includes
everyone who works primarily in Theater; Doug, Adrianne Harrop and Judy Louff.
Doug explained that they have been involved with the planning and will continue
to be from inception through construction – including the best place for them
to be and what they will need to have space wise – while construction goes on.
Questions were fielded from the
Classified Senate members present. Discussions took place regarding involvement
in other building/renovation projects throughout the campus and how important
Senate members felt it was to have the Classified employees input into the
decision making process of buildings we would be occupying. Space was mentioned
as a consideration and ergonomics.
4.
Academic Senate’s Computer Use Policy Proposal: Lee mentioned that all comments should be presented to CSEA.
Robert Ponce
said he wanted to go over what Phil Hendricks said in his e-mail yesterday
regarding the policy. Lee read the e-mail. Robert didn’t understand and Lee
explained further about the policy.
Barbara Siegel
suggested that a computer use policy means that there is computer misuse
happening and that’s why it needs to be looked at.
Further
discussion followed. Gayle Sosa made the motion to table the discussion until
the next month due to time constraints. Craig Walters seconded the motion. It
was voted on and tabled.
5.
Committee Involvement Reports: Lee mentioned that the State
Budget proposal comes out on Friday, January 10th. There were no
other reports. Mary-John Hart stressed again that getting involved in campus
wide committees is vital to our Classified Senate.
6.
Officer Reports: None
7.
CSEA Report: Barbara reported that Respect &
Professionalism passed. No meetings are scheduled. It’s up to Dr. Robertson
and Robert Sammis to call the meetings.
8.
Questions, Comments, Good of the Order: Barbara stated
that the By-Laws for the Classified Senate needs to be addressed. She also
mentioned that she wanted an apology for what she felt were offensive comments
about her made by Lee in e-mail addressed to Senate members. Lee apologized for
the comment being ‘public’.
Lee mentioned that Alfred Reynales had accepted the position to sit on the Student Judicial Affairs Hearing Board. Martha Jimenez will be the alternate.
