Classified Senate

Meeting Minutes of December 10, 2003

Call to Order: 12:13pm No quorum. This will be an informational meeting only today due to the low attendance of Senate members. We will hold a discussion on our Senate Mission Statement.

  1. SB644 information: Tony Prestby not here.

Student Scholarship set up. Tom Carter asked where the money would come from for this. The answer is through fundraising. Jim Galligan asked how much money we now had and Lee Peterson stated that we have $600.00 in our treasury. Tom said that Burger King has fundraising coupons. Amelia Trejo sells Avon. Ana Jara said we could start at a smaller amount. Lee spoke of different ways to set up different types of scholarships. He brought up the fact that the Senate may use up time for meetings.

Tom suggested we form a committee to deal with the scholarships. Bernie asked how much money is in the emergency fund. Ross Johnson was the only employee with payroll deduction.

President’s Report: Talk about a budget workshop for employees and the public. A lot of people don’t understand the budget process. Ana would like as many Senators to attend the workshop as possible. She said the workshop would be at night.

Leslie Kawaguchi the Academic Senate President said that January could be the start of a tough year and could be a tough month.

Ana said that our meeting dates might possibly be moved due to timeliness of getting information to us and/or back to the Board of Trustees. Lee suggested that we could divert Piedad’s agenda into our own by directing what’s going on in meetings with her into how it affects us. Lee suggested we put the Officer’s Reports in the Classified Senate Public Folders.

The Mission Statement and the set up of the student scholarship fund are the only two items to be voted on. Bobby Ponce asked what was more important – the emergency fund or the scholarship. Amelia will look into it.

There are still opportunities to volunteer for activities/committees through the Senate.
