Senator Elections

You will notice the action item on this month's agenda concerning senator elections. Resignations by senators have left the Senate in a serious state. We currently have 15 vacancies due to resignations. Our bylaws currently state that the officer elections must proceed senator elections and unfortunately we have not been able do this since we are all stretched so thin. The Classified Senate is an important voice and organization. We have all worked very hard to make the Senate a viable organization for classified and now I am asking for you to support this agenda item. Your support is not only needed by affirming this interpretation of the bylaws but encouraging some of your colleagues and new employees to participate. We could do so many things for classified staff but we need people to do this. I have heard many staff say they are disillusioned and while I know we are all working hard it must begin with us. We are a powerful positive group and we can do this. I have stated my grave concerns to the Board of Trustees and Senior Staff. I have told them we needed their support by alerting their managers that this is important to the welfare of the college. I have asked to address the managers and department chairs at their meetings to explain how critical it is.

At Thursdays, meeting, we will have Jim Wilson come and speak for a few moments on the statewide activities of the Classified Senate. I hope that you will all show your support and attend this meeting.

Thank you and I will see you on Thursday, March 9.

Tony
