Faculty members expect and want student to do well. What do professors expect of their student in the classroom? Below is a list of some of the responses provided by faculty members when asked, “What are your expectations of new students?”

Be open to new material.

Schedule classes with enough time to get from one class to another.

Read the syllabus (course reading and assignment list), Keep up with the work, and don’t fall behind!

Be ready for class. Pay attention!

Attend class regularly, be willing to learn, and do the reading!

When writing papers use proper grammar and make sure you spell check your work.

Ask questions.

Meet with the instructors from time to time to discuss your progress in the class.

Take notes during class, even if the material is available from another source.

Follow directions completely.

Know the material necessary to do well on the exam.

Express views of the material in a well though-out manner, and give support for your views.

Don’t be afraid to take chances intellectually.
