HOW TO APPLY TO THE COLLEGE (TEACHING POSITIONS)


TEACHING POSITIONS

Information regarding current job openings and how to acquire an employment application may be obtained from our 24-hour job hotline (310) 434-4336, by stopping by the Office of Human Resources - Academic Personnel office or by clicking on the link above.  Our office is located at 2714 Pico Boulevard, Suite 210 in Santa Monica. We are open from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday.

A district application must be completed in order to apply for any available positions at Santa Monica College. Resumes will not be accepted in lieu of a completed application.  You may, however, attach your resume to your application. Should you wish to apply to more than one department, photocopies are accepted as long as they are accompanied by an original application.

Applications for part-time teaching positions are accepted on a continuous basis and are registered with Academic Personnel before being forwarded each month to the appropriate department(s). They are kept in the department(s) for one year. In the event of an opening, applications on file for that discipline are reviewed and the most qualified applicants are contacted by the department chair.

Applications for full-time academic employment are only accepted when a position is available. Should a full-time teaching position become available, part-time applicants (with an application on file for that discipline only) will be notified by mail and a separate application will need to be completed according to the specifications of that particular full-time application process.

In the event that a full-time academic position is available, all materials requested by the Office of Human Resources must be submitted prior to or on the stated deadline date specified in the job announcement in order for the application to be considered for full-time academic employment at the Santa Monica Community College District (SMCCD). 

The following materials shall be included in your application package:

*    A completed Santa Monica Community College District Application for Academic Employment;

*    Three recent letters of reference from professional persons having first-hand knowledge of the candidate's professional qualifications, character, etc.; (E-Mailed letters of reference are not acceptable) 

      OR 

 *   A placement file (If the placement file from your graduate institution contains 3 letters of  reference which are less than three years old, further letters of reference are not necessary);

*    A resume (Resumes will not be accepted in lieu of a completed application);

*    Transcripts (need not be official).

However, you will need to print out the completed application and then drop off the application in our office or mail it to the address listed on the application. You will need to provide an original signature on each copy of your application you submit.
