Reading and Composition: the Research Paper
English 1 is a 3-unit course in
rhetoric which emphasizes clear, effective written communication and production
of a research paper supported by critical reading, effective note-taking, appropriate use of paraphrase, quotation, summary, and synthesis of reliable
source material. Papers require incorporation of information from a
variety of sources and follow MLA style. It is recommended that students have
keyboarding skills. There are sections of Eng 1 designated for
international students; check the class schedule for these.
Prerequisites: Passing grade in Eng/ESL 21B, Eng
22, or ESL 25 or ESL Assessment Group A. (3 unit UC/CSU transferable
course)
