Since its founding in 1956, one of the priorities of the Santa Monica College Foundation has been its scholarship program. More than $500,000 is awarded annually.
The SMCF manages more than 300 on-campus scholarship accounts. Endowed awards are established with a minimum $10,000 gift and can be donor-designated and named. When a donor wishes to establish a special annual (one-time) scholarship, perhaps as a memorial, funds are accepted into the general scholarship fund, appropriate recognition given at the annual awards banquet, and the award distributed per the funder’s wishes. Awards are given in increments of $250, although the Foundation urges scholarships to be at least $500 whenever the balance is available.
The SMCF also administers scholarships for which students are selected by off-campus organizations. The scholarship check is forwarded to the Foundation for the Scholarship Office to verify the student(s) enrollment and mailing address and to distribute the check to the student(s).
