FAQ Sheet- Temporary Employees
 
 
Q. What is a temporary employee?
 
A. A temporary employee is generally hired to work a maximum of 120 days per fiscal year, on an as needed basis.  As a provisional employee, you are generally allowed to work a maximum of 90 days per fiscal year.
 
Q. What is involved with being hired as a temporary employee?

 
A. Once notified by the Personnel Commission that you are hired as a temporary employee, you will be contacted by Human Resources office to set up an appointment for processing.  This appointment consists of filling out several district and state mandated forms, receiving clearance for having a TB test and fingerprint administered, and upon completion-signing an employment offer.
 
Q. What forms am I required to fill out?

 
A. The processing appointment consists of filling out:
 
-W4 form- To declare your federal and state withholdings.
- Emergency Card- Who you would want us to contact in the event of an emergency.
- Questionnaire- A Personnel questionnaire not to be included in your file, but used for our records.
- Warrant Recipient- To designate the recipient of any paychecks owed to you in the event of your death.
- I9 form- Stating your eligibility to work in the United States.
- Oath of Allegiance- Stating you defend the Constitution of the United States and of California.
- Larisa Enrollment- As a temporary employee you will not be contributing to Social Security, but you are required to contribute to some type of retirement system.  Larisa is the retirement system that Temporary employees must enroll in.  The district takes out 3.75% of your check and matches it with 3.75%; from the beginning, you are 100% vested.

     Q. What about the TB test and Fingerprints?
 
     A. TB tests are administered on campus at the Health Office.  Once you have the test taken, you must return to the Health Office 48-72 hours later to have it read.  You may also have a TB test administered off campus if it is more convenient, but results of clearance must be submitted to Santa Monica College prior to signing the employment offer.
 
 Fingerprints must be administered on campus by the Santa Monica College Campus Police Department.  The office is open for fingerprints between 10-11 and 3-4 pm, Monday-Friday.  There is a $34.00 fee for the fin
gerprints that is payable in cash or check at the Auxiliary Services Office.
 
Q. What if I have taken a TB test recently?
 
A. If you have taken a TB test within the last 6 months, you are not required to re-take it, providing you show proof of clearance.
