YOUTH OPERA CAMP AT MADISON COMBINES PERFORMANCE, BEHIND-SCENES LOOK

An eight-week Youth Opera Camp for children nine to 14 years old – offering participants a unique opportunity to perform as well as get a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at Los Angeles Opera – will be inaugurated Oct. 6 at SMC’s Madison campus.

The camp – scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays – will culminate in two performances Dec. 7 of a new opera, Friday Night at Hodges’ Café, featuring students along with members of L.A. Opera. Not only will students in the program prepare for the performance, they will learn all the aspects of production, including costumes, makeup and more. In addition, L.A. Opera professionals in all aspects of production will be guest speakers at the camp.

The camp participants will also be guests at an L.A. Opera special dress rehearsal performance.

The program is made possible, in part, by the Costen Children’s Fund. A limited number of scholarships will be available on a first-come, first-served basis to families meeting financial-need qualifications.

For information, contact Adam Philipson at (310) 434-3431.
