“New” Library
Opens with Completion of Major Expansion, Modernization

SMC’s “new” Library – a
building that has undergone a major expansion and modernization – opened
this week in time for the new school year, drawing praise
for its architectural design and state-of-the-art features. More

| SMC Board of Trustees Approves Madison Theater Project |

In an historic move,
the SMC Board of Trustees voted unanimously earlier
this month to certify the final environmental impact
report for the 535-seat Madison Theater Project and
to approve the project.
The action clears the way for the college to proceed
with getting the required state architectural approvals,
with groundbreaking expected in spring or summer
of 2004.

In Memoriam
Margaret “Maggie” Maddox,
Financial Aid Grant and Work-Study coordinator, died July
28 at the age of 52. The twin sister of SMC Police Chief
Eileen Miller, she started
work at SMC in 1995 in the Bookstore.
Retired SMC art professor Susan
Sanford Wakefield, who had taught at the college for 20
years, died July 27 at the age of 62. Aside from teaching
at SMC, she had also been director of the college Art Gallery
for many years. |
