of the worst. SMC and its people demonstrated many times throughout
2001 why it is sometimes called the Harvard of community colleges.
But the campus community also shared in the worldwide grief

Luther King Celebration Jan. 21, 2002
Father Michael D. Gutierrez
-- a Catholic priest perhaps best known for his work with
at-risk youth -- will be the keynote speaker at the celebration
of the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther
King, Jr. on Jan. 21, 2002 at
the First United Methodist Church, 1008 11th St., Santa Monica.
SMC is a major sponsor of the event.
