Mona
Martin, assistant dean of learning
resources, has received the 2002 Annual Achievement Award
from the Council of Chief Librarians of the California Community
Colleges. One of two recipients of the award, Martin was cited
for her statewide work on behalf of community college libraries.

A short story by adjunct English professor
Roberta Orona-Cordova, "Black
Suede Shoes," has been accepted for publication in a
new reader called Hands Across Borders:
A Multicultural Reader for Writing. The publication
date is September.
Tony Prestby,
public programs coordinator, has been appointed south vice
president of the California Community Colleges Classified
Senate. His term runs through the end of June.
President Dr. Piedad
F. Robertson has been elected to the American Council
on Education's Board of Directors. She will serve through
February 2005.
Rosie Santilena,
daughter of Vernene Bell, English
instructional assistant, completed her eighth L.A. Marathon
on March 3.
Business professor Michael
Schapa has received his doctorate of education in organizational
leadership from Pepperdine University's Graduate School of
Education and Psychology. The title of his dissertation is
"Federal Income Tax and the Performing Artist."
Communication professor Heather
Smith presented on "Liberating Students to Discuss
Race, Gender and Ethnicity in the Classroom" earlier
this month at the Western States Communication Association
Convention in Long Beach.

Todd, an actress and model, was featured in the
Feb. 24 New York Times Magazine
article on Old Hollywood. She was hired for and pictured in
a photo used to accompany the magazine article.
