cinema professor Paris Poirier’s award
winning documentary, Last Call
at Maud’s,
will be aired at 11 p.m. Saturday, June 28 on KCET, the Los
Angeles PBS station. Among other
honors, Maud’s was named Outstanding Documentary Feature
of 1993 by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences.
Sherri Bradford, lead counselor for the Black Collegians
program, and student James Hoon Lee, founder of the SMC Asian/Pacific
Islander Student Association, were named winners of the Associated
Students Recognition Awards for May. The awards were announced
by Student Trustee Allison Sandera. The awards are given
to students, faculty members and classified employees who
have made outstanding contributions to the college or have
inspired students or changed lives. Nominations come from
throughout the campus.
Emerita Felix, academic affairs department
secretary, is a grandmother for the third time with the
birth April 28
in Santa Monica of Spencer Andrew Felix. The parents are
Emerita’s son Peter Felix and wife Heather.
Peter Hanks, son of SMC Foundation accountant Suzie
Hanks,
will receive his doctorate in the Philosophy of Language
from the University of California, Berkeley, on Saturday
(May 17). He has accepted a position as assistant professor
in the philosophy department at the University of Minnesota
and he has authored an article that will appear in the philosophy
journal Nous.
Adam Philipson, special projects coordinator for the Madison
Site Theater, received one of just two available scholarships
statewide to attend the annual Classified Leadership Institute
in June in Lake Tahoe sponsored by the California Community
Colleges Classified Senate and Community College League of
California.
