Dr. Martine Verhoeven,
psychologist / violinist, was born in the Netherlands in 1944. She and her
family moved to the United States in 1986. She has been Concertmaster of
the Santa Monica College Orchestra since 1987. She plays chamber music and
performs regularly with her piano trio, and with local orchestras. She is
managing director for the Summer Institute of Chamber Music in California
of the American String Teachers' Association (ASTA),and also on the board
of the Grand Pacific Chamber Music Society. She teaches privately, and since
1997 also the Strings classes at SMC. She finds teaching and learning to
play a stringed instrument in a string orchestra setting very enriching
and exciting.
