In response to the growing influx
into the SMC faculty/staff e-mail system of unsolicited/unwanted
commercial, adult-oriented, and virus-generated messages –
i.e., "spam" - the District has purchased an enterprise-level
solution to address this problem. The chosen solution will
divert prior to delivery any message suspected to be spam.
The system will then daily send to each user a message called
aJunk
Box Summary, which summarizes
the e-mail that has been diverted. In place of dozens or hundreds
of unwanted messages every day, a user will instead receive
a single summary message. Directly from the Summary, recipients
can view and/or release for delivery any of the diverted messages.
There is also a web interface that can be used instead of
or in conjunction with the Summary. Together, these interfaces
provide full control to recipients over the e-mail messages
sent to them.
If you have
specific questions or concerns about making full use of the
system’s features or about customizing it according
to your own preferences, please e-mail Postmaster@smc.edu.
