This course is an introduction to the field of political economy which surveys contending theoretical perspectives, historical and institutional development of the emerging global economy, as well as substantive issues areas and public policy concerns. A background in economics or political science is helpful, but not required.

This course offers a chronological study of American economic history by major areas including agriculture, industrial development, money, banking, and transportation. The roles of business, labor, and government are given a particular emphasis.
