Teacher & Reading Development Partnership (TRDP)

SMC’s Teacher and Reading Development Partnership (TRDP) is an academic transfer program for SMC students aspiring to become K-12 teachers.

The program partners SMC with area California State Universities, and gives full-time students the chance to earn—simultaneously, and in as little as four years—both their bachelor’s degree and their preliminary multiple-subject teaching credential.

To help students accomplish this, SMC offers most of the lower division courses required for entrance into a local CSU teacher credential program, as well as:

•   Specialized career counseling services;

•   Instruction on tutoring K-3 students in reading (ENGL 93);

•   Hands-on experience in the classroom as a reading tutor (ENGL 94);

•   Math for elementary teachers (MATH 41);

•   CBEST preparation course;

•   Membership in SMC’s Future Educators Club; and

•   Financial aid and scholarship assistance.

For more information, please contact TRDP Project Leader Joe Ryan at (310) 434-4023. To make an appointment with TRDP Counselors Alicia Villalpanda and Maria Cook, please call (310) 434-4210.
