SEE THE GALAPAGOS ISLANDS THIS WINTER 2005
We invite you to join Professor Ed Tarvyd on a nine-day study study tour to Galapagos Islands this Winter. Earn SMC credit while studying aboard a 20 passenger yacht anchoring near different islands each day for visits accompanied by a Galapagos trained naturalist with intimate knowledge of the islands.
See the unique flora and fauna of the islands. Observe sea lions, marine and land iguanas, blue footed boobies, red-footed boobies, masked boobies, cormorants, albatrosses and the famous Galapagos tortoises in their natural habitat.
Daily lecture by Ed Taryvd are scheduled covering plant and animal dispersion, birds and reptiles, marine life and Charles Darwin.
In addition, you will get a taste of Guayaquil, dynamic seaport and gateway to Galapagos, spend a few days in Quito, the quaint capital of Ecuador located in the valley of the Andes Mountains at an altitude of 9,455 feet, visit the famed Otalvalo market place of the Northern Andes. Participants will earn on unit of Biology 46C (Natural History and Marine Biology of the Galapagos Islands).
This nine-day study tour begins on January 21 and will return to United States on January 30, 2005. One unit college credit (Biology 45C) will be earned. The program cost is approximately $3,500 including round-trip air transportation, accommodations, local transportation, sightseeing tours and more. SEE AUSTRALIA IN WINTER 2005

Experience the sights and sounds of Australia while studying biology and communication at the University of Sydney and the Heron Island Research Station, Gladstone, Queensland. We invite you to join Professors Garens Baghdasarian and Nancy Grass-Hemmert for a three-week study abroad during our winter session (and it’s summer in Australia!). As part of the educational experience, you will visit key places of interest and history throughout Sydney and travel by catamaran to study at the Heron Island Research Station.

SEE COSTA RICA THIS SPRING 2005
We invite you to join Professor Ed Tarvyd on a one-week field trip to Costa Rica in the Spring on April 9 to April 16, 2005. Earn SMC credit (Biology 45V) while studying firsthand the plant and animal forms of Costa Rica. Student will analyze the neotropical fauna and flora, biogeography, and the ecology of Costa Rica, including Central America’s Cenozoic geology, volcanism, tropical rainforest canopies, and the history and impact of human inhabitation. Near shore and offshore marine ecosystems will be inclusive in the course. Introductory lectures and a final evaluation meeting will take place on the SMC campus.
