Counseling Complex 434-4926
Pico Partnership On the Move—a joint program of Santa Monica College, the City of Santa Monica, Virginia Avenue Park Community Center, and Family Service of Santa Monica—is designed to motivate at-risk young adults to enroll at SMC, and to help them succeed in working toward their career and educational goals. Students take SMC classes that lead to an AA degree, certification in a trade or profession, or transfer to a four-year college or university. The program provides:
• Help with admissions and registration;
• Academic and career counseling;
• Mentoring and personal counseling;
• Help with applying for financial aid and meeting the expenses of a college education;
• Book scholarships;
• Assistance in finding and covering the cost of childcare; and
• Placement in part-time jobs on the SMC campus.
To participate in Pico Partnership On the Move, students must be under age 24, be Santa Monica residents or have attended either a school within the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District or St. Monica’s, and have a strong desire to refocus their lives and develop a positive outlook on their futures. Members of the program are encouraged to serve as role models for other young adults in the area and to invite them to look into the opportunities and benefits that a college education can offer. Applications for the program are available in our office.
