Seussical

Music by Stephen Flaherty. Lyrics by Lynn Ahrens. Book by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. Co-Conceived by Lynn Ahrens, Stephen Flaherty, and Eric Idle. Based on the works of Dr. Seuss. This fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza brings to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including the Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie, and all of the Whos of Whoville! Seuss’ subtle themes are surprisingly relevant and profound, making this musical one that appeals to all ages!

Blood Wedding

By Frederico García Lorca. Set in early 20th-century rural Andalusia, this highly stylized play tells the story of lovers drawn irresistibly together in the face of an arranged marriage. The play incorporates song, chant, poetry, music, dance, and rhythm, and reveals Lorca’s intense, tragic vision of the nature and violent consequences of lived desire.

The Playwriting Process: From Idea to Production

G. Bruce Smith is an award-winning playwright with production credits in Los Angeles, Long Beach, and Sacramento. His play “The Last Pitch” won the 2000 National Playwriting Award from American Renegade Theatre in North Hollywood and had an 11-week run in 2001, garnering LA Weekly’s “Pick of the Week.”

Asian Pacific Tales

Performed by East West Players

Dramatized folk tales blending Eastern and Western theatrical techniques are interspersed with song, dance, rhythm, and percussion from every region of the Pacific Rim—China, Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Polynesia—in a performance designed to encourage children to discover other ways of life and understand the diversity of Asian Pacific Islander cultures.

Peter Alsop

Peter Alsop is a nationally known singer-songwriter, educator, and humorist with a PhD in educational psychology. He has produced 19 audio recordings and seven videos, and consistently wins “Best Children’s” awards from Parent’s Choice and the Association for Independent Music. His songs are highly popular with children and used daily by thousands of parents, educators, and human service professionals.

Carnival of the Animals

Performed by Jim Gamble Puppets

Inspired by the Camille Saint-Saens musical score, this rod and string puppet production depicts the composer as a little boy who creates imaginary animals from familiar objects. His pet cat becomes a Drum Major Lion, while his Tinkertoys transform into “Tinkertoysaurus.” This performance emphasizes music education and uses the ‘Curtain of Light’ technique.
