Tara Ison is a member of the Core Faculty in Antioch University’s MFA Program in Creative Writing. Her fiction has appeared in Tin House, The Kenyon Review, LA Weekly, and numerous anthologies. She is also the co-screenwriter of the film “Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead” and her novel—A Child Out of Alcatraz—was a finalist for the 1997 Los Angeles Times Book Awards. The tale of friendship, betrayal, and redemption—set in pre- and post-Taliban Afghanistan and in California—has captivated readers across the nation and is this spring’s featured book for the Santa Monica Citywide Reads program.
