Abstract Truth Revisited: 2nd Annual Tribute to the Music of Oliver Nelson
Celebrate the works of legendary saxophonist, composer, and arranger Oliver Nelson, one of the first black jazz composers to brave the cutthroat world of television and film. The ensemble features some of LA’s best jazz musicians, including many who recorded with Nelson before his tragic death in 1975, at the age of 43. Jazz in Motion: Jazz Music & Images in the Modern Era of Film
Keith Fiddmont, Director. Highly informative symposium on music composition focuses on the recent past, present, and future of jazz musicians and music in the film industry. Includes screening of excerpts from theatrically released movies—The Pink Panther, Lift to the Gallows, Anatomy of a Murder, The Man With the Golden Arm—followed by a discussion and Q&A session featuring John Beasley, SMC faculty member Leslie Drayton, and other distinguished film composers.
