Join us for one of Southern California’s largest celebrations of the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., honoring his memory and his work toward nonviolence. On Sunday, an afternoon commemorative concert by the Santa Monica Symphony, under the baton of Allen Gross, features a performance of Joseph Schwantner’s New Morning for the World. Monday morning starts with a multiethnic interfaith program that includes inspirational readings, music, and presentations of scholarships. Immediately following the program, a Community Involvement Fair (held nearby, at 606 Wilshire Blvd.) offers refreshments and informational displays by a variety of community organizations.
