Dr. James Smith, Conductor. October concert features Aaron Sims, former SMC Applied Music Major, playing the Concerto for Guitar and Orchestra, op. 36, by Mauro Giuliani. November concert features a selection of concerto movements played by various members of the orchestra.

Leading Russian baritone will perform vocal works by Tchaikovsky and Kabalevsky, then be joined by the Firebird Russian Quartet in a performance of ever-popular Russian folk songs, accompanied by authentic traditional Russian instruments.

The SMC Jazz Vocal Ensemble—winner of the Outstanding College Performance Award, Jazz Vocal Group category, from “Downbeat” magazine and invited to perform next January in Toronto, Canada, at the International Association of Jazz Education’s annual conference—entertains with solo and ensemble selections from jazz repertoire.

The annual “Christmas Celebration” concert brings together the SMC Concert Chorale, the Chancel Choir of the Santa Monica First United Methodist Church, and the Los Angeles Concert Orchestra in a joyful evening performance that includes the beautiful Magnificat by John Rutter and the ever-popular “Carols, etc.,” featuring Peter Graves as guest narrator.
