Hints for Speedy Registration
This schedule includes current information and section numbers which change every term.
NEW STUDENTS are individuals with no previous Santa Monica College or Emeritus College Student Identification Number.
CONTINUING STUDENTS were active sometime during the previous two regular semesters.
RETURNING STUDENTS, after a longer absence, may need to confirm contact information with the admissions office to avoid undeliverable registration materials.
• Address or phone number changes are very important to up-date.
• New, continuing and returning students may continue to use the large application form at the back of the schedule or from the Internet site to register.
• Continuing and returning students with an SMC ID# may use the short form mailed to their home or the telephone registration process described below.
• A separate application form must be submitted for each person every semester. There is no automatic re-registration.
• Fill out forms completely and clearly. Missing or hard to read information may delay your enrollment.
• Use your legal name – no nicknames and sign your form.
• A date of birth is required in order to issue a permanent student ID # and will be used as a personal access code for future enrollment.
• For new students, it takes 3 or more weeks to receive a confirmation of enrollment and an ID card.
• Do NOT select classes that overlap in time. We are unable to enroll you if classes overlap.
• Do NOT enroll in two sections of the same course.
• On paper forms, list alternate courses next to your first choice and write in “Alt” in case your first choice is filled.
• NOTIFICATION: A confirmation of the classes in which you are enrolled is mailed to you. Please keep it as a record of your enrollment and student ID number.
BRING THE CONFIRMATION OF CLASSES WITH YOU TO YOUR FIRST CLASSES AND TO THE OFFICE IF YOU HAVE ENROLLMENT DIFFICULTIES.

The course section number, the 9000 number next to the time and day, is the most important item. Be sure to use the number from the current schedule. |
Telephone Enrollment is for Continuing Students Only. It is Instantaneous.
Appoinment times are assigned by lottery and are included in the continuing student mailing.
New students cannot use the telephone enrollment option until a Santa Monica College ID# and personal access code are entered into the computer system. Please use a paper form to register for the first time. Once you are in a class and receive an SMC ID#, you may use telephone enrollment services to drop and add classes.
Instructions and a worksheet are available in the continuing student mailer sent to your home, from the www.smc.edu/emeritus home page or from the Emeritus office. You need your student ID# and the 6 digit personal access code which is your birth date: mm/dd/yy. This will ensure you have all your options in front of you if classes are full.
