This course focuses on the literature written by and about United States’ ethnic groups, including European Americans, Native Americans, Asian Americans, African Americans, Latinos/Latinas, Jewish Americans, and others. Students will analyze the literature and explore both the commonalities and differences among the works. The course also examines the influence of these writers on the course of American literature.

ENGL 52, Literature of the Bible: New Testament 3 units

This study introduces the students to the variety and wealth of literature contained in the New Testament. Attention is given to the ways in which Biblical literature has been and can be interpreted, studied, and used. The various types of literature in the Bible are set forth and representative pages of each of these types are presented and examined.
English 52 is the same course as Religious Studies 52. Students may receive credit for one but not both.
