“Since
then, I’ve gone on to six different universities. And I never
felt as good about any of them as I did about SMC.”
Yoram Yahov
(SMC, 1978 and 1979) has made a career out of inventing new careers
for himself. He was an Israeli army captain for several years,
a West coast manager for a Fortune 500 company and continues to
write for Israeli and European newspapers. He started his own
video production company and now specializes in international
bartering services for large corporations. Along the way this
energetic entrepreneur founded the Adventurers Club.
“I saw
there was a serious problem with the youth in this country,”
says Yahov. “So we started taking kids out of the city and
into the great outdoor ‘classroom.’ We river rafted,
hiked, rode horses and before I knew it, we had 3,000 members.”
After travelling
all over North America by Jeep, Yahov returned to Israel and was
promptly shipped out to Los Angeles to serve in the diplomatic
corps. And that’s when he discovered SMC.
“It
was really an unbelievable time for me,” he recalls. “I
took a speech class that completely affected my life. My teacher
really gave me a boost, the ability I needed to get up in front
of people and speak English. And from there I got involved with
the student council and I was just really in love with SMC.”
Yoram says
the best thing about SMC is what he calls its “personalization.”
“By going to SMC and having a teacher that knows you by name,”
he says, “it helps you—on a real high level—to
have confidence in yourself. For me, and for a lot of others from
out of the country, SMC is absolutely the best!”
