“Haley
is the love of my life. She’s my little rock ’n roller.”
Jim Lucitt
is just discovering how incredibly easy it is to be a father.
“I just sent Haley and her mother to visit family in Florida,”
he says with a laugh. “So this has been the easiest week
of my life since she was born.” Wheeling Haley across campus
in her “rock ’n roller-stroller” has been the best
part of Jim’s frantic schedule as he juggles studying, a
radio internship, fatherhood, and a full-time job.
“I’m
interning at KLSX, learning something new every day and working
with some great people,” says Jim who credits SMC with getting
him a real breakthrough in radio broadcasting. “The internship
was actually almost a requirement for one of my classes,”
says Jim. “And it was really the driving force to get me
to complete my program in the Broadcast department.”
Jim believes
getting on his current “fast track” to a radio career
is due in part to some “excellent teachers at SMC: John Copps
and his wife. And to Bill Furnell, who’s a really well-known
broadcast figure in the Bay Area.” But it may be that Jim’s
greatest inspiration to succeed in what he himself calls the fast-paced,
dog-eat-dog world of radio broadcast, is daughter Haley Marie,
his constant companion at SMC.
“I’m
very concerned about the kind of education Haley is going to get.
We’re already saving for her schooling,” says Jim. “And
when the time comes, I wouldn’t hesitate to send her to SMC.
It’s done right by me.” Jim adds that he hopes his career
will soon lead him to his own “slot” on commercial radio,
pumping out classic rock to the LA area. “But you never know,”
he says. “The right place, the right time. Anything can happen.
So stay tuned!”
