Reyn Hornwood

Student

“The Human Development class I had with Mrs. Robinson is one I recommend 100%. I wish it had been the first class I took.”

Born-again Christian, born-again snowboarder, and future deal maker, Reyn Hornwood has very distinct advice for all who are just arriving at SMC. “My Human Development class totally changed me, and I hope the counselors really start pushing it. It teaches you how to make goals, stick to them, and study properly,” he says. “I created study groups—which I’d never done before—and I learned what kind of learner I am. Even an A student can become better because of this class,” he continues. “I mean, a lot of my friends think they’re great students, but this class makes sure you are a great student.”

Taking the skills he’s learned at SMC to either USC or Pepperdine, Reyn plans on making business his arena. “I’ve been in business since a young age, and I really enjoy keeping deals together,” he says. “I think I’m good at it because people trust me. It’s a talent I want to pursue because I think I can help others while taking advantage of my God-given abilities.” Reyn says that “ten years from now, you might find me selling real estate or possibly funding movies.” But the latest discovery of his “talents” pretty much assures you that you’ll also find him in the local mountains.

“I just learned how to snowboard today,” he says with excitement, “and I’ll never bother with skiing again. This stuff is just real cool,” adds the new hot-dogger. But his list of ‘cool’ also includes the learning he’s done at SMC. “I’ve had great professors here that come from a broad spectrum of knowledge. The way they teach, the way they design classes, you can just tell that they’re putting their hearts into what they do.”
