Liz Levi

Liz Levi

Science / AS Commissioner

“I’m in the Scholars program, and all of the counselors there have been very, very helpful to me.”

Liz Levi. Scholar and… high school dropout? Well, thereby hangs a tale. “I’m in my third year at SMC now, and I started here when I was 16 with my high school equivalency diploma. Everyone in my family has done this, so I just skipped my junior and senior high school years.” It would appear that the Levi family is not one that likes to waste time; least of all Liz. “When students get to SMC, they first of all have to figure out what they primarily want to accomplish. The first year, I hadn’t decided on a direction, and that’s why it’s taken me this long.” But indecision is a thing of the past now for Liz.

“I’m a French major, but I’m going into Pharmacy for a career,” says Liz. “I’m studying French because I love the French language and culture, and I have friends in France I can stay with.” But it’s as an AS Commissioner for the Director of Student Activities that Liz’s freewheeling, improvisational personality truly shines. “I like being involved with the AS because we get to determine how all the activities turn out. We help out with a lot of great events, and we hold meetings with groups coming onto campus. It can be a lot of fun,” she adds. “Plus, it’s going to look good on my transcript when I transfer.”

A career in Pharmacy, a ‘bon sojourn’ or two to France, an imminent transfer to a four-year college, and her duties as an AS Commissioner. Liz certainly has enough on her plate, and says that studying nights is one way for her to stay ahead of the curve. “Night classes can be very good, and I’ve had some excellent ones,” she says. “It’s a little tiring to get home late at night, but there’s only so many hours in a day. And I need to use all of ’em!”
