“I’ve very much enjoyed studying Business at SMC because the professors are uniformly excellent. They simply inspire me to do well.”

Before SMC, Deidra Alexander had another life, another career, and was about as high profile as you can get. But she didn’t want to talk about all that for this profile. “That was all a loooong time ago. And now I’m just pleased to be at SMC as a student, working like crazy right along with everyone else here. And I’m extremely excited to get into marketing and advertising because they’re creative fields. And I’ve worked creatively—in makeup artistry—for 13 years. But now it’s time for me to take that creativity to another level altogether.”

Deidra reported that she was looking forward to an imminent transfer to UC San Francisco. “Yep, I’m going up there because of their excellent Business department. In fact, my grandfather actually graduated from there—in Business!” says Deidra. “So there’s definitely that precedent in the family.” But during her time at SMC, Diedra reports nothing but positive experiences in her urge to excel.

“Oh, my God! Mr. Adelman? I took Broadcast Advertising with him, and now I have him for Public Relations. He’s an absolutely gifted teacher—even though he’s a couple of years younger than I am!” says Deidra with a great laugh. “But all of my professors have given me so much, and I feel completely prepared to tackle the UC system. I mean, a lot of my professors teach at UCLA as well. It’s a great college that we have here, and I know that – when I move on – I’m going to miss it.”
