“Guidance is always essential if you’re going to someplace like UCLA. And SMC works so well with them—step by step—that it actually makes it easy to get there.”

There’s a whole new way of learning in the Digital Age. And SMC was onto it—and helping to shape it—from the get-go. Just listen to what David Hoover says about how teachers and students now ‘interface.’ “My Business Law teacher—Jim Downs—I really loved. I mean, it’s still the law, but he managed to convey it in terms that you’ll actually experience in a business environment. How the law works within business. But the most important thing Jim gave me was just the way he worked. His lectures and his enthusiasm: It’s his passion! And it certainly doesn’t hurt that he’s also a lawyer.”

And now… techies take note as David continues. “Jim’s class was a hybrid between the actual classroom stuff and online content, which was really cool. He used technical guides from websites, and then set up his video lectures so that we could just download them to our MP3s. And he’d have a PowerPoint projector going right next to his face, so you didn’t feel like you had to read notes or ‘talk’ online. It was all incredible!” Now that we’ve gotten David to be an ‘evangelist’ for SMC’s tech components, let’s visit the guy himself….

“You know, I went into Fashion at the Art Institute, but I found that just wasn’t my calling. And I realized that what I really wanted was to go into an advisory position for e-companies or larger firms. What I want to do is simply to analyze the numbers and be able to say, ‘Whoa! This is where you’re losing huge amounts of cash!’ ” Buying? Selling? Looking for an ideal price point? Ad budgets? Just call David Hoover. After UCLA.
