••••• Founded by Jim Krusoe in 1988, Santa Monica Review is a nationally distributed literary arts journal sponsored by Santa Monica College. The journal is published twice yearly, in Fall and Spring. The Review currently features literary fiction and nonfiction, though in past years also included poetry. SMR represents Santa Monica College’s commitment to the literary arts, community, and literacy. In nearly twenty years of production, the Review has featured both first-time writers and established literary authors, with a focus on showcasing the work of Southern California and Pacific Rim writers. ••••• Celebrate Santa Monica Review. Support a great anthology!
SMR contributor Steve de Jarnatt’s short story. “Rubioux Rising” has been chosen to appear in the terrific annual anthology Best American Short Stories. Edited by guest reader Alice Sebold, SMR is pleased to be featured in one of the country’s enduring traditions of pointing out excellent writing. Note also that another SMR contributor appears on the “100 Distinguished Stories” list: Victoria Patterson, for “Johnny Hitman,” in our spring issue.
SMR editorial assistant Dawna Kemper’s short story “Say the Word” from The Idaho Review, appears on the list of “Notables” in Best American Nonrequired Reading, another wonderful anthology, along with “Expletive Delected,” by John Zaklikowski, originally in fall 2008 SMR. Go SMR team! •••••
