STUDENTS:
To work as a student worker at Santa Monica College (SMC), you must have a valid Social Security (SS) Card with the correct spelling of your name. F-1 students will be given a form letter to request a SS card from the Social Security Office.
There are two different categories of student workers at SMC. Student Help (SH) workers are funded through the department budget of the hiring department. Federal Work-Study (FWS) workers are funded through the Federal Work-Study Program, a federal financial aid program that requires that the student apply for federal financial aid, meet specific eligibility requirements, and be awarded FWS funds by the Financial Aid Office.
To work as a STUDENT HELP (SH) worker during the Fall and Spring semesters, you must be enrolled in 12 units or more at SMC during the entire semester.
To work as a FEDERAL WORK-STUDY (FWS) worker during the Fall and Spring semesters, you must be enrolled in 6 units or more at SMC for the entire semester and have FWS listed as an award on your Financial Aid Award Notification letter.
If you are participating in any SPECIAL PROGRAMS that allow you to work with less than 12 units, you must provide a letter from that program that acknowledges your participation in that program
