SMC How to's

These Tips & Tricks are for PC computers that use the Windows NT operating systems.  Similar, but not the same key combinations work with Apple operating systems.  In addition, users can employ the right mouse button to reveal a shortcut menu that performs many of the commands like the keyboard combinations below.

Notation:
[  ] indicates a key from the keyboard on your computer.

For Example:
[Shift]= The Shift Key           [Ctrl]= The Control Key       [Alt]=The Alternate Key
Microsoft Office Keyboard File Commands
[Ctrl] + [N] = New Document
[Ctrl] + [O] = Open Document
[Ctrl] + [S]  = Save Document
[Ctrl] + [P] = Print Document
[Ctrl] +[ F4] = Close Document
[Alt] + [F4] = Close Window
Microsoft Office Keyboard Edit Commands
[Ctrl] + [Z] = Undo
[Ctrl] + [Y] = Redo
[Ctrl] + [X] = Cut
[Ctrl] + [V] = Paste
[Ctrl] + [C] = Copy
[Ctrl] + [H] = Replace
Most Frequently Used General Tips
[Ctrl] + [C] = copy items that are selected or highlighted.
[Ctrl] + [V] = paste
[Ctrl] + [Z] = undo
[Ctrl] + [Y] =redo

[Ctrl] + [S] = saves your file.
[Ctrl] + [P] = prints your file.
[F1] = on-line help in most applications.
[Ctrl] + [A] = select all
[Alt] + [Tab] = switch between applications
Word 2000
Double clicking on the Format Painter icon enables you to apply attributes to text on your document repeatedly.
[Esc] = Disables Format Painter

Step 1 - Highlight text with attributes you need, like 18 pt. Bold, Garamond, from already formatted text.

Step 2 - Double click the left mouse button on the Format Painter Icon (looks like a paintbrush).

Step 3- Highlight desired text you need to apply attributes on from previous text. Continue until finished.

Step 4 - To disable Format Paint. Press the [Esc]

Outlook 2000
To select messages and save time try using the [Shift] with the left mouse button.  By selecting message 1 for example, then holding down [Shift] and clicking on message 20, you will select all of the messages continuously from message 1 to message 20.

To select messages non-continuously, try using the [Ctrl] with the left mouse button.  By selecting message 3 for example, then holding down [Ctrl] and clicking on messages 12,14,18 you will select only messages 3,12,14,18.

Note:  To move or delete all of your messages. Use keys:
[Ctrl] + [A] = select all

By using the right mouse button on a file name or folder you can select the Rename command and shortcut menu.

[F5] = refreshes computer to latest info from the server
[Crtl]+[O] = Open Internet Address
