Auditions

 

 

 

In order to be eligible for casting in a Main or Studio Stage production, you must either be a currently enrolled SMC student (in a class other than the production) or have been a student at the college within the past year.


TA 53 - Production for the Younger Audience

THE WIZARD OF OZ

Music and Lyrics by Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg
Based on the book by L. Frank Baum


       May 29, 2008        6:30 pm            Studio Stage

        Prepare 32 bars of a song from musical theatre in the style of the show.
                Bring sheet music in your key. An accompanist will be provided.
        Be prepared for cold reading from the script.
 

Callback:
June 2, 2008        6:30 pm            Studio Stage

        Prepare a 2 minute monologue.


        No appointments are provided.

        Pictures and resumes are accepted, however, are not required.

        Participation in the production requires enrollment in the advanced production class, TA 53.  There are fees involved.

        Santa Monica College productions are non-union and non-paid.

TA 50 - Advanced Production, Full Play

CRIMES OF THE HEART

        Participation in the production requires enrollment in the advanced production class, TA 50 and concurrent enrollment in the make-up workshop class, TA 51. There are fees involved.

TA 55 - Advanced Production, Small Theatre Venue

TALK RADIO

        Prepare a 1-3 minute contemporary, realistic monologue that highlights your strengths as an actor.
        Be prepared to do a cold reading from the play.

Audition sign-ups will begin at 6:15pm at the door.

Stu Noonan: Barry's operator
Spike: Sound engineer
Linda Macarthur:  Assistant producer of "Night Talk"
Dan Woodruff:  Executive producer, WTLK
Sidney Greenberg: Financial talk show host
Bernie: Sid's operator
Kent: Guest
Dr. Susan Fleming: Talk show host
Rachael: Susan's operator
Callers: Talk show listeners who call in to the radio station
[Actors with a wide range of character vocal skills are encouraged to audition for these multiple roles.  Some of the voices include: a transsexual who is trying to save money for an operation, a little kid with a potty mouth, an Aryan anti-semite who makes a bomb threat, a sixteen year-old despondent pregnant girl, a militant environmentalist]

TA 55 - Advanced Production, Small Theatre Venue

BUTTERFLY WINGS, World Premiere

        Prepare a 1-minute contemporary monologue.
        Be prepared for a movement audition.
        Audition sign-ups will begin at 2:00 pm at the door.

Characters:
        Sarita:        40's to late 50's - dancer
        Rajiv:         20's - her son - college student, jock
        Zander:      20's - Rajiv's friend - college student
        Donald:      40's to late 50's - Zander's father
        Maggie:      20's - Rajiv's friend - college student
        Chorus:      10 versatile narrators / commentators with great movement and rhythm skills 

TA 15B is strongly recommended if you are planning to do this show. The TA 15B class is offered at 5:15pm, immediately after this class. Rehearsals will be on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:15-5:20pm. Some Friday rehearsals.  Rehearsals start Sept 1st.

Fall, 2008       Audition for TA 43 will be held on:

                                    Tuesday, August 26            2:15 pm            Th Art 101

                            Students should have a 2-minute modern or classical (comic or serious) monologue prepared.


TA 44 - Acting, Historical Styles (late)


TA 45 - Musical Theatre Workshop

Fall, 2008        Audition for TA 45/Music 45 will be held on the first day of class
                                    Monday, August 25          12:45 pm            Studio Stage

                            Students should prepare 32 bars from any musical theatre production and provide sheet
                            music. An accompanist will be provided.


TA 56 - Advanced Audition Workshop

Winter, 2008         Audition for TA 56 will be held on the first day of class
                                    Wednesday, January 2           10:15a-2:35p            Studio Stage

                              Students should prepare a two-minute monologue in any style.
