Focus On SMC
At Santa Monica College Education does not just take place in our classrooms. There are a lot of extra activities going on. We had a lot of important events this semester, the one most talked about was undoubtedly the budget cuts in California and their effects on SMC. Fortunately, this is not just what’s happening in our college. Other important events took place this semester, including speeches by Fay Kanin, Dolores Huerta and KC Cole, three great figures in modern women’s history...Read On

Sacramento-A Second Chance at Activism
The night was cold and a bit rainy, but there was no doubt that this was a committed group. Instructors, staff and students, 150 people, joined together in an effort to protect the quality and quantity of educational and vocational opportunities for students attending SMC...Read On

But this doesn’t bother her at all, it is rather the opposite, she works hard to serve as a role model to young women students. She “definitely” encourages them to work hard. For those students who would like to follow in her path, in Science, Dr. Dell advises they take as many mathematics classes and science classes as possible, and also not to be afraid of asking questions whenever there is something they don’t understand...Read On

ESL Intensive
ESL intensive English has also been a good cultural experience for us. In fact, students came from different places in the world and shared their experiences relative to their culture and the topics discussed in class. Each student had to describe his or her home country by presenting to the class a specific characteristic of the country. Each of us also had to present a topic relevant to current social and political issues such as elections, the death penalty, abortion and racism. Those presentations were good ways for students to get acquainted with the way of life in their host country, the US...

Club Row
As an international student, I always look forward to discovering cultures different than mine and to meeting people from other parts of the world. It helps me enrich my general knowledge and share my experiences related to culture shock or even language barrier; thereby easing my integration in America, especially at Santa Monica College...Read On
