About the Photographer
Nick
Ut's career spans over 35 years as a professional
photographer. Hired by the Associated Press in
Saigon in 1966 at the age of 16, Nick was only
22 years old when he shot one of the most recognized
photographs in the world depicting the conflict
in Vietnam. The photograph of Phan Thi Kim Phuc
has become etched into our global consciousness
not only as an image illustrating the horrors
of war, but also, an image that changed our perception
of war. This important photograph earned Nick
both the Pulitzer Prize and World Press Photo
Award in 1973. Nick remains to date the youngest
recipient of an individual Pulitzer Prize. Nick
has been the recipient of many awards and honors,
among them: the Sigma Delta Chi, The George Polk
Memorial, the Overseas Club (APME), and is listed
among the top 100 best U.S. journalists of the
20th century by the New York University Department
of Journalism & Mass Communication. Nick's
photographs continue to be published worldwide.
