CLOTHING OF THE DEAD

Allan Hurwit

Prejudice - Hatred - Ignorance

Heavy, black, musty shrouds

Cover the mind - stifle thought - kill natural curiosity

Blindfold the inward looking eye - warp growth and development
--
Like a sponge soaking up water the young learn

Do not think for yourself - have faith in authority

Blindly follow inexplicable mysteries

Remember - those different are less - not even human like us
--
The shrouding of the mind is an ancient thing

Carried on since cave dwelling ancestors

Things we are taught to think - feel - believe

Whether right or wrong - reasonable or unreasonable

Become part of who we are - part of our territory
--
Like chimpanzees we primate humans defend our territories fiercely

US against THEM
--
Will it ever come to pass that it is not US and THEM

For we are all US

Will we ever learn to throw off the clothing of the dead

And see that our territory is the entire earth
