Coach Strong’s Newsletter!!

Hello to all SMC Women’s Basketball fans and supporters!!    This is a great time for our program as we begin official practice soon in preparations for the upcoming 2007-2008 season.  The team has been working hard since August, but now we are only a few weeks from the excitement that is SMC Women’s Basketball!!

The practices in pre-season are critical to setting the tone for the season.  It is a long year and the more that is accomplished early, the more a coach can let things out a bit in March.

My assistants Danny O”Fallon and Strength Coach Karl List have been pushing all 15 players who are vying for quality playing time.  We feel they are very talented players  who can offer a great deal this year.  Everyone is working hard and we are beginning to get healthier.  There is no doubt that this team is stronger and can be faster than ever. Our coaches have done an outstanding job of challenging the team in the weight room and pushing the girls with their fundamentals on the floor.  Strength, combined with speed and agility, is a very powerful combination.  We want this team to be relentless, especially on the defensive side of things, and have the ability to go forever. We do anticipate some excellent depth as we work to pull all the pieces together. .

Now it is time for everyone to compete on the practice floor everyday and show intensity and effort in all they do.  I have a pretty good idea of our starting lineup, but that could change as we approach our first game.   I am specifically looking for the emergence of team leaders, and overall toughness to really help excel through the long season.

In addition to the daily work we put in working to improve, we are already recruiting for next season!! Asst Coach Danny O’Fallon has been out looking for talent at high school fall leagues and we are working toward our 3rd annual Recruit Night Saturday February 90 2007 vs. Glendale College (5:30 p.m.)  Our goal is to invite as many possible players and their parents to games for to give them an idea of our program and how we work hard to be successful.  We have a few commitments already and are looking to bring in as much talent as possible.

This is a special time of year. I am truly excited and wish November 7th was tomorrow!!   Really hope to see all of you are our games this season!!

2007 - 2008 Season Opener is Wednesday November 7 2007 vs. Santa Ana College at 5:30 p.m.  Help us fill the gym!!!
