Semester Musicianship Theory Corequisite?

Semester 1

Music 5: Fundamentals of Musicianship

Music 1: Fundamentals of Music, or Music 66, which also includes the first level of piano, Music 60A

Music 1 (or Music 66) should be taken before or with Music 5

Semester 2

Music 2: Musicianship

Music 6: Diatonic Harmony

Usually taken in the same semester, but with exceptions are possible

Semester 3

Music 3: Musicianship

Music 7: Chromatic Harmony

Almost always taken in the same semester

Semester 4

Music 4: Musicianship

Music 8: Modulation and Analysis

Almost always taken in the same semester

Please Note

  • If you already have musical experience/training, please contact one of the instructors teaching these classes to help determine the appropriate level to begin.
  • Music 1, Music 5, and the non-Music 60A (piano) components of Music 66 are not required for the Associates degree, but are recommended for students as preparatory classes.
  • A hard copy of the packet of Music 6 practice quizzes is available for Music 1 and Music 5 students (or by request from the Music Office) to help prepare for the daily timed, short quizzes in Music 6.
