Accessibility & UDL in Action: Course Readiness Series - Summer 2026

Accessibility & UDL in Action: Course Readiness Series is a hands-on summer professional development series designed to help faculty make practical improvements to their courses before the start of the term. Sessions will focus on accessible Canvas design, documents, slides, videos, and Universal Design for Learning strategies that support clearer, more flexible, and more inclusive learning experiences.

Session 5: Captioning Cafe - Plan, Record, Caption, and Share Accessible Videos - Thursday, August 20 - 1 - 2:30 PM

Join us for the fifth session in the Accessibility & UDL in Action: Course Readiness Series, a hands-on summer professional development series designed to help faculty make practical improvements to their courses before the start of the term.
This session will support faculty with both existing videos and future video creation. The focus will be on planning ahead so videos are easier to caption, easier to navigate, and more useful for students. Faculty will also learn practical strategies for reviewing captions and prioritizing existing videos for accessibility improvements.

Topics will include captioning expectations, common captioning barriers, captions versus transcripts, reviewing and correcting auto-captions, planning before recording, decluttering slides or screenshares, speaking visual information aloud, keeping videos short and focused, and identifying which existing videos should be prioritized for remediation.

Faculty are encouraged to bring one existing video or one planned video idea. During the supported work time, participants may review captions, identify next steps, or create an accessible video planning outline. Participants will leave with a captioning action plan, a corrected caption sample, or an accessible video planning outline, along with an Accessible Video Planning Checklist + Caption Review Guide resource.

This session is appropriate for all faculty who use or plan to create instructional videos, recorded lectures, demonstrations, or multimedia course materials.

Fall 2026 - @One Fall 2026 Course Offerings - No Cost to Faculty

There are still seats available in many of the CVC@ONE courses - including the popular Online Teaching and Design! They are once again free to California Community College employees. While you're there, please also take a look at our self-paced courses. We offer courses in Creating Accessible Course Content and Introduction to Alternate Media, among others.

Registrants must use a California Community College (CCC) email address when registering and courses are open to both full-time and part-time employees. If you have any questions, please contact support@cvc.edu.
