Accessibility & UDL in Action: Course Readiness Series - Summer 2026 - ARCHIVES LINK

Accessibility & UDL in Action: Course Readiness Series was a hands-on summer professional development series designed to help faculty make practical improvements to their courses before the start of the term. Sessions focused on accessible Canvas design, documents, slides, videos, and Universal Design for Learning strategies that support clearer, more flexible, and more inclusive learning experiences.

🗓️Hands-On PDF Accessibility Workshop - Friday, September 25, 2026 | 1:00–2:00 PM PDT

Description: Join us for an interactive workshop on identifying and remediating common PDF accessibility issues using Adobe Acrobat Pro.

Facilitators: Shawn Jordison - Accessibility Expert & Matt Larcin - Instructional & Universal Designer

Participants will gain hands-on experience with:

Reviewing document tags and correcting reading order.
Applying appropriate tags and adding alternative text.
Repairing lists and tables.
Setting document properties and performing accessibility checks.

Using sample PDFs, participants will practice each step and leave with a practical, repeatable workflow for creating accessible documents.

🗓️Hands-On Course Accessibility Support Lab for Title II Compliance: Digital Access Coaching

Friday, October 16, 2026
11:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
Format: In person - Success and Engagement Center Computer Lab, Student Services Center, 1st Floor.

This open lab will provide hands-on support from the High-Tech Support Team, DE Team, Digital Access Coaches, and Accessibility Ambassadors. Faculty and staff are encouraged to bring one or two course materials, such as a Canvas page, syllabus, PDF, Word document, slide deck, assignment, or video, to review and improve for accessibility.

This session is especially helpful for faculty working on Canvas content, documents, images, links, PDFs, slide decks, videos, and other online materials in preparation for Title II compliance and WCAG 2.1 accessibility expectations.

There are still seats available in many of the CVC@ONE courses - including the popular Online Teaching and Design! They are once again free to California Community College employees. While you're there, please also take a look at our self-paced courses. We offer courses in Creating Accessible Course Content and Introduction to Alternate Media, among others.
