Data Coaching Program

Data Coach LogoThe Data Coaching Program at Santa Monica College was launched in 2017 to expand the capacity of the college to compile, analyze, and apply data to inform inquiry activities and planning processes, such as curriculum review, program review, equity strategies, grant proposal application and evaluation, and course and program development. Each year, the Program provides training for faculty, staff, and managers on various data topics and tools designed to improve data literacy and enable campus leaders to more effectively engage in the inquiry process. After completion of their initial trainings, data coaches are expected to apply what they learned in their programs and/or assist other leaders in the compilation, analysis, and interpretation of program data.

Each year, the focus of the program changes to adapt to the emerging needs and strategic priorities of the College. The theme of 2021 Data Coaching Program is "Creating Our Equity Superpower" or "Equity Avengers"*. This year's program is intentionally designed to train instructional department chairs on how to analyze racial equity data in their courses and programs for their annual program review reports and prepare them to lead and facilitate effective conversations about race, racial equity, and racial equity data in their departments.

*Our theme was inspired by the Equity Avengers movement that was started by Drs. Keith Curry (President, Compton College) and Pamela Luster (President, San Diego Mesa College) to promote equity conversations across institutions of higher education.
