Everything you need to know about Professional Development Day

Fall Professional Day 2021 (Thursday, August 26, 2021)

The SMC Professional Development Committee (PDC) and the Classified Professional Development Committee (CPDC) organized the Fall Professional Development Day 2021 program. The theme of the Fall Professional Development Day  is  This is How We Do It: Equity in Action.

Last Spring the focus of the Flex Day was to raise awareness of the Santa Monica College Student Equity plan.  For Fall Professional Development Day the goal is to not just plan and think about equity but to start taking action. The day will focus on learning specific actionable steps to promote equity across SMC. To help achieve this goal, the PDC and CPDC have worked together with other key campus stakeholders to develop a virtual program featuring keynote addresses and participatory workshops.

We hope you enjoy the selection of professional development that we have organized. All workshops are virtual. Please review the schedule to make your selection. Full captioned recordings will be posted as soon as available following the event (likely two weeks).

Welcome Back to the New Normal

Presenter: Dr. Karen Gunn, Gunn Consulting Group

The Classified Professional Development Committee wants to take the opportunity to recognize the contributions and adaptation of classified professionals during the year in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Classified Professionals have worked hard, persevered and remained resilient through a whole year of change. The session is for you and the opportunity to identify how employees adapted, the changes in how work is done, the role of the CPDC and strategies for coping with the workplace context.

Rocking your Role: Building Your Strengths and Coping Skills

The work of Classified Professionals are in constant flux. Remaining adaptable to change has always been part of our role. And adapting to change, shifting priorities, working through fear, uncertainty and doubt are all aspects of our new normal. This session will focus on how the roles of self-awareness, social awareness and self-care come into play for classified professionals.
