Day 1 is categorized by welcoming your new employee, creating a comfortable and inclusive environment through engagement with management and connections with their departmental colleagues.  The goal of Day 1 is to provide the new employee with an overview of basic operations as well as creating connection to the department and co-workers.  

The remainder of Week 1 allows the manager to build upon the foundation laid that first day.  During this period, the manager will ensure the new employee understands what is expected of them daily and is given opportunities for regular check-in and questions.  The manager will meet one-on-one to review responsibilities, work assignments, expecations, and establish a job specific training plan and schedule.
