SMC Hosts French Photographer Nico Therin March 12

Talk to Focus on "Senegalese Wrestling Photo Series”

SANTA MONICA, CA — Santa Monica College (SMC) will host a talk by Los Angeles-based French photographer Nico Therin about his “Senegalese Wrestling Photo Series.” Therin’s photo series has been featured on NPR and Washington Post, among others.

The free event will be held at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, in Stromberg Hall (Humanities & Social Sciences Lecture Hall 165) on the main SMC campus, 1900 Pico Blvd., Santa Monica. Seating is on a first-arrival basis.

Therin will present and discuss a selection of images from his visit to Senegal, where he documented the nation’s famed wrestling matches on the sand. As a photographer, he takes a collaborative approach to capturing intimate and colorful moments with his subjects, often in underrepresented communities, to celebrate them through movement and proximity.

Street parking is restricted around the main SMC campus. Attendees are encouraged to arrive via the Expo line, the bus, or a ride-sharing service.

The presentation is sponsored by the SMC Associates, a private organization that funds speakers and special programs on campus.

For more information, please call 310-434-4100.

Santa Monica College is a California Community College accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
