Science Research Initiative (SRI) Program Overview
The Science Research Initiative (SRI) is an academic support program designed to assist students interested in pursuing Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) majors/careers.
The SRI program will help program participants successfully complete their studies at SMC, transfer to ANY baccalaureate program, and/or enter the STEM workforce. This program works closely with partners at UCLA, specifically the Undergraduate Research Center.
Program Requirements & Important Dates for 2021-22
|Program Orientation||June 28 OR 29, 2021|
|STEM Skills Week||August 16 - 21, 2021|
|Counseling Sessions||2 Per Semester|
|STEM Workshops||1 - 2 Per Semester|
|Academic Support Programming||Supplemental Instruction, Tutoring, Lecture Series, etc.|
|Peer Mentoring||2 meetings per semester|
Additional Requirements (once in the program)
1 STEM Course (minimum) every semester at SMC: Math (non-business), Computer Science, Earth Science, Life Science, Physical Science, Sustainable Technologies, Engineering)
Maintain at least a 2.8 GPA each semester
STEM Career Courses (Counseling 12) and Job Strategies (Counseling 15) offered Fall/Spring.
Principles & Practice of Scientific Research Course (Science 10) offered Fall, Winter, & Spring
