MAS Program Overview

Maximizing Achievement in STEM (MAS) is an academic support program designed to assist students interested in pursuing Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) majors/careers.

The MAS program mission is to help students in STEM successfully complete their educational goal at SMC, transfer to ANY baccalaureate program, and/or enter the STEM workforce.

Program Requirements for 2023-24

REQUIREMENT FREQUENCY
Program Orientation June 28th OR June 29th, 2023 (New Students)
STEM Skills Week  August 14 - 18, 2023 (New Students)

STEM Program Courses :

Counseling 12, Counseling 15 and Science 10

To be completed within the first year of program participation
Counseling Appointments 2 Per Semester 
STEM Workshops 1 Per Semester
Peer Mentor Contacts 2 per semester 

Additional Program Recommendations:

  • 1 STEM Course (minimum) every semester at SMC: Math (non-business), Computer Science, Earth Science, Life Science, Physical Science, Sustainable Technologies, Engineering)

  • Maintain at least a 2.8 GPA each semester
