Writing & Humanities Tutoring Center (WHTC)

 

​​The Writing & Humanities Tutoring Center (WHTC), located in Drescher Hall 313, offers writing support services to all SMC students in all subject areas. Our goal is to help students become more confident, self-directed, and informed writers so that they can achieve greater academic and professional success. During the COVID-19 pandemic, all tutoring is taking place remotely is available by appointment.

Subjects for which tutoring is available in the WHTC:

  • Economics 
  • English/ Writing
    • Synchronous sessions (referred to as ONLINE) allow you to see and talk to the tutor in a virtual room that provides a whiteboard for you to upload your essay.
    • Asynchronous sessions (referred to as Paper Consultation) allow you to upload your essay and await the tutor's instructional comments regarding the essay's structure and content. Please be advised that tutors do not correct essays or grammar problems.
  • History 
  • Logic (Philosophy 7 and 9) 
  • ​Psychology
  • Political Science

WHTC Hours

​​Monday-Thursday: 8:30 a.m. - 7 p.m.

Friday: 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Writing assistance is offered on an appointment basis.

Appointments

To schedule a tutoring appointment, log in to your Corsair Connect and select from the left-hand margin the link for Tutoring Appointments

Once you are on the Schedule page, scroll down the menu for the English/Writing or the Econ/History/Poli Sci schedule.

Additional Online Tutoring​​

Students in any SMC English course may receive online tutoring assistance by enrolling in
English 1E​.​

Do you have a grammar question? Submit your quick question, and it will be answered within 24 hours (M-Th).

Help Wanted

Tutors with specialties in writing, economics, history, philosophy, psychology, or political science. Applicants must be full-time students (carrying a minimum of 12 units) at Santa Monica College. Please fill out this WHTC Tutor Application and email it to cheney_joyce@smc.edu.​
