Professor of French, PhD

Aurélie Chevant-Aksoy was born and raised in Auvergne, France. She earned a MA in Applied Foreign Languages (Languages, Business and Translation) from the Université Blaise-Pascal, in Clermont-Ferrand, France, followed by a MA in French and Francophone Studies  from UMass Amherst and a PhD in Francophone Studies with an Emphasis in Applied Linguistics from UC Santa Barbara. 

Dr. Chevant-Aksoy taught in Massachusetts at UMass Amherst and Harvard University, and in California at UC Santa Barbara and Soka University of America. In 2017, she joined the Santa Monica College faculty, where she teaches all levels of French. 

Outside of her work as an educator, Dr. Chevant-Aksoy enjoys spending time with her family, dancing salsa and blues, going to new exhibitions, playing board games, traveling and experiencing new cultures.

Sociolinguistics; Multiliteracies; Transcultural and translingual studies; Media / Visual arts and second language acquisition ; Open Educational Resources.

French and Francophone Literature, Literary and Cultural Theory
Postcolonial studies; Franco-Asian literature (with a focus on Vietnam); Comic books and Graphic Novels; Gender studies.
