Sustainability and Environmental Certificates and Classes

SMC provides many opportunities for students to pursue their passion for solving the world’s problems by offering a wide range of degrees, certificates and classes that prepare them for jobs and careers in various sustainability fields.

Our mission to prepare students for global citizenship necessitates educating them in principles of sustainability and engaging them in a step-by-step process of implementing such principles on a daily basis.

Environmental Science
An interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary course of study that presents an overview of ecological issues from a scientific perspective.
Environmental Studies
An interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary course of study that presents a broad overview of ecological issues from a variety of perspectives.
Sustainable Materials Management
In this Earth Sciences program, students will gain practical skills and theoretical frameworks to help individuals, communities, and businesses reduce their waste, save money, and operate more efficiently.
Geospatial Technology
Geospatial technologies are used to capture, store, manage, analyze, and visualize geospatial information related to locations on Earth's surface.
Aquaculture
This Life Sciences program emphasizes workforce preparation for a growing aquaculture industry in LA, through a lens of climate change and sustainability.
Sustainability in Business
In this Business program, learn to apply sustainability to all aspects of business while also learning essential skills like tracking and reporting, assessing key indicators, and much more.
Sustainability in Organics Aide
These Noncredit classes will teach you the goals of a sustainable food system, ways of reducing food waste, and how to implement an organics collection program in the workplace, home or community. 
Sustainability Assistant
This Noncredit certificate will introduce students to sustainability principles, community engagement, education and outreach, and policy governance.
Sustainability Services Technician
This Noncredit certificate will introduce students to sustainability principles, materials and environmental assessment methods, and clean technology systems and practices.
